Occupational Safety and Health for Seafarers (HSE)

The HSE course is developed by Tranvåg Maritime AS and has been evaluated by the Norwegian Maritime Directorate to meet the mandatory requirements set by the Norwegian Maritime Authorities for 40 hours of training in Occupational Safety and Health. (Ref. also: The ILO's Maritime Labor Convention(MLC))

Our HSE course is based on and meets MLC requirements. These requirements are incorporated into flag state legislations (NIS, UK, Isle of Man, Bahamas etc.). By ratifying a convention, the states commit themselves to fulfil the conventions (state agrees to make it part of its own national legislation (and enforce it)).

The course is designed and arranged to be completed by e - learning, where the course participants’ studies 4 modules. The course participant understanding of the topics are tested by completing a final multiple test exam.

Course participant should after completed this course be familiar with relevant rules and regulations applicable to the safety, health and environmental (HSE) work onboard the ship, and find oneself able to participate in implementing, evaluating, as well as contributing to improve the HSE management system based on relevant rules and regulations, together with finding the practical elements to make the system user friendly and efficient. 

Course certificate will be issued by Tranvåg Maritime AS when all the modules are completed and approved.

The course certificate shall be available for inspection by maritime authority (or recognized classification society – ROC - on behalf of the Norwegian Maritime Directorate) when required

How will this course benefit me?
Piracy and armed robbery is a real threat to seafarer’s onboard ships and mobile units at sea. 1st January 2014 a requirement about seafarer’s security training was put in force for all ships to which the ISPS Code applies.
The training consists of an e-learning course and the performance of certain on board activities described in a checklist. The client’s approved instructors must sign completed checklists for each trainee. When the training is completed a certificate is issued by the Norwegian Maritime Authority.

This course will be a part of a blended learning in two stages:
The first stage is this e-learning course
The second stage will be on board training reflecting the realities on-board the vessel you are serving on. This training might take a couple of weeks or more to complete, as you will be required to participate in a number of drills.

The training will be complete when all the elements of the checklist pertaining to your designated security duties.
