This introductory course provides the drilling personnel with basic understanding of well control. Progressing junior staff get a solid background and knowledge of why well control is essential, how well control is maintained, what the indicators are that well control might be lost, and how to regain the control once it has been lost.

Understand the negative consequences associated with loss of well control
Understand the need for detection
Recognize the warning signs of abnormal pressure
Know the actions that should be taken when kick indicators are present
Be familiar with the functions of the bop equipment
Be able to select well control method to regain control
Be able to fill in a IWCF surface and/or subsea kill sheet
Be able to calculate kill mud weight, initial circulation pressure and final circulation pressure
Correctly obtain shut in pressures in the well
Understand the barrier concept
Know the impact pumping cement could have on well control
Obtain sufficient knowledge to pass a written IWCF test with minimum 70% score

This option is more aimed at delegates with prior knowledge/experience in the workplace assessment, who are looking to consolidate their skills and knowledge to gain a formal certificate.

Those who assess in the workplace using direct and indirect methods of assessment using examples: observation, questioning, work product, professional discussions, simulations, written evidence such as witness statements and candidate statements and RPL.

Assessment Requirements

Delegates will be required to submit a portfolio of evidence covering all of the Performance and Knowledge Criteria for the L&D9DI Unit. They must submit, as a minimum, assessment-related documentation that provides evidence for the elements listed below, for two candidates, covering two assessments per candidate: 

• Preparing to assess 

• Planning assessments 

• Assessing candidate’s performance and knowledge 

• Confirming progression and achievement

Delegates must use a range of assessment methods, including observation, questioning and work product. 

Delegates will also need to be observed carrying out part of the assessment process by an ITB (or NVQ-level) assessor and participate, with other assessors in their workplace, in standardisation practice.

This course includes all subjects needed to prepare candidates for the rotary drilling well control exam, surface and subsea BOP stack at supervisor level.

A printed course manual and exercise book is provided for all attendees. The IWCF exam is included in the course.

The course has been made on basis of the recommendations for enhancements to well control training, issued by the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (OGP).

Stress is our body's way of responding to physical, emotional, or mental demands. Although typically associated with negative circumstances, stress can be caused by both good and bad experiences. Our bodies react to stress by releasing chemicals into the blood to give us energy and strength to handle the situation. ISM-koden (International safety management code – A.741(18)) er en internasjonal sikkerhetsstyringsstandard for drift av fartøy (flyttbare installasjoner til sjøs) og hindring av forurensing. Tolv år etter at ISM koden ble obligatorisk, gjennomførte IMO den første revideringen (gjennomgang) av koden. Endringene ble gjort gjeldende fra og med juli 2010. Den siste “oppdateringen” (forandringer) av ISM koden (2014) er gjeldende fra og med 2015. I 2017 vedtok den internasjonale maritime organisasjonen (IMO) kravet om Maritime Cyber risikostyring (datasikkerhet). Datasikkerhet skal nå være en integrert del av rederiets risikostyring for å håndtere risikoen for sine skip. Fra og med 2021 er kravet at håndtering av cyberrisikoer er innarbeidet i rederiers sikkerhetsstyringssystem.
