Those who assess in the workplace using direct and indirect methods of assessment using examples: observation, questioning, work product, professional discussions, simulations, written evidence such as witness statements and candidate statements and RPL.

Assessment Requirements

Delegates will be required to submit a portfolio of evidence covering all of the Performance and Knowledge Criteria for the L&D9DI Unit. They must submit, as a minimum, assessment-related documentation that provides evidence for the elements listed below, for two candidates, covering two assessments per candidate: 

• Preparing to assess 

• Planning assessments 

• Assessing candidate’s performance and knowledge 

• Confirming progression and achievement

Delegates must use a range of assessment methods, including observation, questioning and work product. 

Delegates will also need to be observed carrying out part of the assessment process by their ITB assessor and participate, with other assessors in their workplace, in standardisation practice.

Is there an assessment? 

Once you have completed the course, you will be asked a series of questions to check your knowledge and understanding. These are based on the learning objectives for the course and have a pass mark of 80%.

LO1 Define what is meant by NORM

LO2 Explain what is meant by ‘radioactive material’ and the difference between alpha particles, beta particles and gamma rays

LO3 Identify where NORM is found 

LO4 Describe the risks and hazards associated with NORM

LO5 Explain the purpose of radiation monitors 

LO6 Explain the importance of proper work planning

LO7 Identify control measures that can be used to minimise the risk posed by NORM

The NORSOK R-003 standard, Safe Use of Lifting Equipment is the industry standard for operating lifting equipment on the Norwegian continental shelf.

The course, “Safe Use of Offshore Cranes”, builds on NORSOK R-003 and is an important means for satisfying governmental regulations for maintaining and verifying competence in the safe use of lifting equipment.

The course focuses ongood work practices, as well as good attitudes and understanding of safety for crane operations, in accordance with the NORSOK R-003 standard.

This course gives an introduction to the new version of R-003 which was launched in 2017.

The course contains references to the 2004 version of R-003, but the course in its entirety will be updated when the new version of R-003 is launched with an updated Appendix B.
