Well Plug and Abandonment Considerations for Carbon Capture and Storage

Course information

Target group:

Personnel working in or supporting well decommissioning and carbon capture and storage projects, including wells, subsurface, engineering, project, regulatory and client-facing teams, as well as contractors who require an awareness of CCS-related well abandonment considerations.

Description:

This module introduces how carbon capture and storage (CCS) can influence
well plug and abandonment planning and execution. Learners will build
awareness of the additional technical, operational and long-term integrity
considerations associated with CO₂ storage, including legacy well risks, barrier
performance and minimum safe abandonment depth.
The module also enables learners to recognise the roles of wells, engineering,
project and client-facing teams in addressing CCS-related abandonment
requirements and supporting the safe, compliant and effective containment of
stored CO₂.
