This course introduces the principles of well plug and abandonment planning and
the requirements for establishing permanent subsurface isolation. Learners will
build awareness of subsurface fundamentals, sustained flow potential, minimum
safe abandonment depth, barrier planning and placement, and annular cement
verification. The module also provides an overview of the OEUK Well
Decommissioning Guidelines and enables learners to recognise the respective
roles of subsurface and engineering teams in developing abandonment strategies
that support safe, compliant and effective well decommissioning.
