The purpose of the course is to prevent noise-induced hearing impairment. You will learn how loud sound and noise affect us. 

You will also learn how you can properly protect yourself against noise and why that is so important.

 

Course Content

- Demonstrate what it is like to have a hearing impairment

- Show how hearing damage may occur

- Explain the permanence of noise-induced hearing impairment

- Explain the link between exposure time and noise levels

- Show why it is important to use hearing protection and, not least, to use it correctly.

 

The course is based on the current rules and regulations for working in areas where there is a risk of being exposed to noise that may be damaging to health.

This course aims to give offshore personnel the knowledge required to understand the hazards and controls associated with noise in the workplace.

 

Course Content
- Describe what noise-induced hearing loss is, and identify the early warning signs and symptoms to look out for
- Explain the workings of the human ear, how noise exposure causes damage, and the effects of such damage
- Explain the responsibilities and duties of employers and employees under current legislation
- Explain how noise is measured and identify the noise levels above which employers should take action to
reduce exposure
- Explain the risk assessment requirements
- Identify the control measures that should be taken to reduce exposure to noise
- Explain the requirements for hearing protection; how to use the different methods of hearing protection and the importance of maintaining hearing protection
- Describe the common roles involved in lifting operations
- Explain the importance of health surveillance

- Outline the measures that employees can take to reduce the risk of HAVS
- Outline the duties of equipment manufacturers and suppliers in reducing vibration risks
- Describe the process of assessing the vibration risk to employees in accordance with the Exposure Action Value (EAV) and Exposure Limit Value (ELV)
- Describe the control measures that should be taken to reduce exposure to vibration
- Explain the importance of monitoring exposure to vibration, and health surveillance
