Personnel working with, or around, sealed radiation sources

Description:

Course Goal: 

This course aims to familiarize learners with US best practice in relation to working with sealed sources of radiation, and measures that should be taken to protect personnel from radiation exposure.

 

Learning Objectives:

LO1 Define what is meant by ‘radioactive material’

LO2 Explain what is meant by the terms ‘sealed source’ and ‘unsealed source’

LO3 Give examples of sealed sources in the workplace

LO4 Identify the hazards associated with radiation

LO5 Identify the PPE requirements for handling radioactive materials

LO6 Give an overview of the exposure limits for handling radioactive materials 

LO7 Describe the correct method for performing personal monitoring

LO8 Explain how the hazards associated with radioactive materials can be mitigated

LO9 Identify control measures that should be taken to protect personnel from radiation exposure

LO10 Explain the actions to take in the event of an emergency
