Problems come in all shapes and sizes, and they are an inevitable part of business life. Instead of trying to avoid or ignore them, it’s better to accept them, find ways to solve them and learn from them. With the right perspective, problems can even be gateways to innovation. There are a variety of models and methods that can be used to identify, analyze, and implement effective solutions. In this lesson, we will look at a hybrid of the A3 model, 5 Whys, and Divergent/Convergent methods.

Presentation 

This training course aims at providing a general description of the different types of lifting appliances that may be found on board ships and offshore units, their main characteristics and operating principles. It provides an introduction to the applicable rules and regulations related to lifting appliances. 

Objectives

On completion of the training, students will be able to: 

Get familiar with the various types of lifting appliances installed on board ships and offshore units. 

Know the regulations, which are relevant for inspection and certification of cargo gear, including international regulations and BV Rules. 

Understand the particularities of lifting appliances and the relevant requirements for the survey of materials and equipment.

Understand the scope of intervention for Cargo Gear in various stages – design, manufacturing and operation, including an overview of control and safety design requirements.

On completion of the training program, the student will be awarded: 

A Certificate of Cargo Gear and Lifting Appliances, issued by Bureau Veritas Solutions Marine & Offshore.

The Certificate of Cargo Gear and Lifting Appliances is obtained after completion of the course and passing the online test. 

Requirements for training related to scaffolding are regulated by law and regulations. This course is based on the requirements of Regulations concerning the Performance of Work, Chapter 17, which is about assembly, dismantling and alteration of scaffolding.

-2-5 meters: 7.5 hours theory and  7.5 hours practical training

-5-9 meters: 15 hours theory and 15 hours practical training

-Over 9 meters: 36 hours theory and 72 hours practical training

This course covers the requirements of theoretical training for scaffolding up to 9 meters, and corresponds to the requirements of the Regulations concerning the Performance of Work, Section 17-2 and 17-3, on theoretical training. There is an additional requirement of 15 hours practical training if 5-9 meters.
