LEARNING OBJECTIVES

This course is specifically designed for training future DPO’s on board a large number of offshore vessels.

The course aim to provide the candidates with knowledge and skills as preparation for DNV DPO Advanced Operations exams and certification.

By the end of course the students shall have:

• Acquired a thorough knowledge of the various types of DP operations such as ROV operations, cable laying pipe laying, trenching, dredging and rock-dumping
• The capability to operate the DP in the various modes associated with such operations, i.e. joystick,  auto pos mode, autotrack mode and follow target mode
• Recognize when environmental conditions or system failure  requires DPO to take action to avoid hazardous situations
• The  ability to carry out such operations according to existing operational guidelines and checklists
• The ability  to demonstrate good personal attitudes towards safety in operating DP vessels according to best practice in the industry

CONTENT

Planning,  briefing and de-briefing of various field exercises according to the existing guidelines, regulations, and industry standards. Repetition of necessary DP theory to close any knowledge gap the students may have in these subjects.

LEARNING PROCESS

All DP  exercises will be carried out on a full scale DNV GL Approved DP Class A simulator, using vessels that are equipped according to DP class 2 and 3. The participants will perform both surface and subsea  operations, utilizing the following DP modes: Joystick, Autoposition, Autotrack and Follow target functionalities.

A level test will be conducted before commencing the course.

EXAM OBJECTIVES

This exam tests the skills and competence of a DPO against the requirements given in the competence standard DNV-GL Notation AJ/FT-AT.

The exam is a thorough test, covering the most important competences for a DPO, in compliance with relevant DNVGL competence standards. The test measures how well operation of equipment, duties and tasks are performed, all in compliance with relevant international, national and local regulations and requirements.

The test center will upon receipt of the application formsend a notification containing the following:

A DNV GL DPO certificate will be issued upon successful completion of the exam.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

The Offshore loading courses are designed to meet  Equinor, OGUK and company specific requirements for training of shuttle tanker personnel. The objective is to achieve optimal skills and understanding on how to handle a shuttle tanker in DP mode. The participants will use previously acquired knowledge on manual handling and basic DP together with updated advanced DP knowledge during training on Shuttle tanker operational procedures.

The course focuses on handling Shuttle Tankers in close proximity to Floating Production Storage and Off take units (FPSO’s/FSU’s), Offshore Loading systems (OLS), Single Anchor Loading (SAL) and Direct Shuttle Loading (DSL) from various FPSO’s.

LEARNING PROCESS

All approaches to the loading buoys are carried out by using Dynamic Positioning Systems, according to procedures. Simulations also include reconstruction of known DP incidents involving shuttle tankers. The complexity of these exercises will be based on the experience of the person “in charge” on the bridge.

LEARNING PROCESS

The purpose of this course is to give operators and others involved in lifting operations the basic knowledge, understanding and skills.

This is achieved through an in-depth period of training on a full-scale DNV GL Class A crane simulator, supported by a program of lectures and instruction.

Study will cover dierent types of loads and external forces affecting the load on crane and boat.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

This course aim to provide Navigators on Shuttle Tankers knowledge and skills to be a certified DPO in offshore Loading Operations.

By the end of the course the students should have:

• Acquired a thorough knowledge of the various type of Offloading Operations, i.e. OLS (Offshore Loading System), SAL (Single Anchor Loading), Tandem loading from FPSO’s and FSU’s and DSL (Direct Shuttle Loading)
• The capability to operate the DP System in various
• modes associated with offshore loading operations; i.e. Joystick, Auto Pos, Approach, Weather Wane
• The ability to carry out any Offshore Loading Operation according to field procedures, guidelines and to best practice.
• The ability to react correctly to any unforeseen DP incident in order to avoid a disaster

LEARNING PROCESS

All Offshore Loading exercises will be carried out on a Full Scale Visual DNV GL Approved DP Class A simulator, being able to simulate all types of operation listed as learning objectives.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

The objective of this course is to give the trainee DPOs as much hands-on experience as possible in the time available. This is achieved by running the candidates through intensive simulator training whilst being exposed to environmental and technical worst case scenarios. This will increase the candidate’s operational skills and knowledge in DP Operations.

This course is designed to give the trainee DPO extensive hands-on training in the use of the DP in a number of varied worst case scenarios. Candidates for the DPO Experience volume training course must have completed the DPO Preparation and the DPO Start courses, or be able to document equivalent competence.

LEARNING PROCESS

• Study of DP incidents
• Construction and use of work site diagrams, charts and vessel templates for use in DP operations

• The DP system’s utilization of position measurements, and tests on position reference systems

LEARNING PROCESS

The training will be a combination of theoretical lessons and practical exercises. The participants will work with practical scenarios based on real operations, training on planning and executing specified operations under varying simulated conditions, including emergency handling

SPECIAL INFORMATION

The DP Simulator course is phase C of the Nautical Institute (NI) DP Operator Certification Scheme.

The course will be entered into the NI Dynamic  Positioning Operator’s Log Book.

CERTIFICATE

A certificate acceditated by the Nautical Institute will be issued on succcessful completion of the course.

This course is intended for Dynamic Positioning Operators (DPO) with a certificate from the Nautical Institute that are unable to revalidate their DPO certificate due to insufficient DP sea time.

By the end of the course the participants shall:

- Have acquired knowledge of the latest rules and regulations
- Have acquired knowledge of the latest developments within sensors and Position Reference Systems (PRS)
- Have acquired knowledge of the latest relevant DP incidents and why they occurred
- Be able to recognize the various alarm, warning and information messages
- Carry out operational planning, risk assessment and hazard identification tasks
- Set up the DP system for a particular task/operation
- Decide on courses of action because of system failure


The course is conducted as classroom training, combining theoretical presentation  and practical work/discussion with exercises in simulator and guidance. For practical capabilities and skills, exercises are performed in fully equipped DP simulator. This course will fulfil the revalidation learning objectives as specified by Nautical institute.
