BRM is based on the guidelines in STCW 2010 (Manila convention). It focuses on human factors that influences interaction on the bridge and patterns of behaviour during incidents. The course consists of full-scale simulator exercises and classroom lectures. Observation and feedback are important elements of the course. The course is in accordance with NMA’s guidelines of 29th January 2015.

 

Course content:
- Allocation and prioritizing of resources, planning and co-  ordination.
- Limitations of time and resources, including the need for rest
- Crisis management, methods of stress-handling
- Efficient communication aboard, with other vessels/installations and onshore
- Briefing; involvement and information

ECDIS is based on the guidelines in STCW 2010 (Manila convention). The course gives an introduction to ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display and Information System). It is carried out in a computer-lab and full-scale simulator on Kongsberg Maritime equipment. The course is in accordance with NMA’s guidelines.

 

Course content:

- Introduction to IMO resolutions

- Knowledge of ECDIS’ and functions

- Understanding ENC data

- Proficiency in operations, interpretations and analysis of information obtained from ECDIS

- Control completeness of chart data and chart updates

- Use of system configuration and back up files

- Use of log files

Course type: Classroom course
Duration: 5 days (50 hours)

The course is in accordance with STCW 2010 (Manila convention) and provides Engineers with the competence to apply for Certificate of Competence. Before the course starts the participants must complete a 20-hour pre-course including exercises. (10 hours FSE-course, including first aid theory and 10 hours exercises.) The course is carried out on simulators, high voltage lab and lectures in classroom. The course is in accordance with the MNA course plan as per 1st August 2015.

The course is a starting point for navigators who wish to acquire Nautical Institute’s DP Certificate. The course follows Nautical Institute’s module based training program.
