Course Goal: This course is designed to enable personnel to treat a casualty who is injured at work, or suffers from a serious illness, while waiting for qualified medical assistance to arrive

Learning Objectives

LO1 Describe how to carry out a casualty assessment

LO2 Explain how to carry out cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)

LO3 Describe how to carry out chest compressions on an adult

LO4 Explain how to carry out mouth-to-mouth

LO5 Describe how to put a casualty in the recovery position

LO6 Explain how to treat bleeding injuries

LO7 Describe what to do in the event of a suspected skeletal injury

LO8 Describe what to do in the event of a suspected spinal injury

LO9 Explain what to do if a casualty is suffering from anaphylactic shock

LO10 Describe the actions to take if a casualty is suffering from shock

LO11 Identify the actions to take if a casualty is choking

LO12 Explain how to treat a casualty with an eye injury

LO13 Describe how to treat injuries involving poisons

LO14 Explain how to treat burns and scalds

LO15 Explain what to do if a casualty is suffering from a suspected heart attack

LO16 Identify the contents of a typical first aid kit

LO17 Give an overview of accident recording
