Who is the course for?

This eLearning course is aimed at individuals who work offshore, in any role, anywhere in the world.

 


Is previous experience required?

 


Learners must possess:

a) A valid OPITO IMIST Initial or valid OPITO IMIST Further training certificate.

Or

b) Have previously worked offshore*
*Learners are required to complete a declaration prior to course commencement confirming prior offshore work experience, including details of their last offshore trip, to include asset name, location and dates.

 


How will the course benefit me?

This course has been created with OPITO to set a global safety standard by applying a consistent level of safety awareness across nine safety critical areas.

The knowledge gained in this course will help you to stay safe in your day to-day activities offshore. It will also outline some of the systems and procedures in place to manage everyday operations offshore.

 


How will the course benefit my company?

By ensuring that your safety knowledge is at or above the baseline level, your company can rest assured that you are able to work offshore safety and in compliance with regulations and company procedures.

 

What standards are referenced in the course?

This course is aligned with OPITO's International Minimum Industry Safety Training (IMIST) Further Standard (5313). As a global standard, the course is not written to meet any specific regional legislation but references industry best practices and standard operating procedures throughout.

 


Is there an assessment?

The course consists of nine mandatory units, each unit starts with an optional pre-assessment that checks existing knowledge. At the end of the pre-assessment, you will have either completed the unit or you will be presented with the content associated with the identified knowledge gaps. After this content review, an assessment featuring a new set of questions for the outstanding knowledge gaps, will be presented for completion. Each unit has a pass mark of 100% with unlimited attempts to complete. Once a unit is complete, the next unit will be unlocked. Completion of all nine units will generate your IMIST-F OPITO certificate automatically. The certificate is valid for four years, after which you will need to sit the course again to refresh your knowledge and earn a new certificate.

4. Documenting each of the above according to the requirement of the management system in the workplace 

5. How to build a portfolio of evidence that meets the L&D9DI standard 

6. How to demonstrate knowledge of the above processes and a range of knowledge related to competence assessment in the workplace

Delegates will be required to submit a portfolio of evidence covering all of the Performance and Knowledge Criteria for the L&D9DI Unit. They must submit, as a minimum, assessment-related documentation that provides evidence for the elements listed below, for two candidates, covering two assessments per candidate: 

• Preparing to assess 

• Planning assessments 

• Assessing candidate’s performance and knowledge 

• Confirming progression and achievement

Delegates must use a range of assessment methods, including observation, questioning and work product. 

Delegates will also need to be observed carrying out part of the assessment process by their ITB assessor and participate, with other assessors in their workplace, in standardisation practice.
