This course is part of the required trainings for HEMS operating crew, and covers classification of dangerous goods, how dangerous goods is divided into hazard classes, how it should be marked and labelled and what emergency procedures should contain.

This course must be repeated every 24 months.

Course goal: This course aims to introduce, develop and increase learners’ knowledge and awareness of the importance of Risk Assessment and how it can reduce the likelihood of accidents in the workplace.

LO1 Explain the principles of, and steps involved in, the Risk Assessment process
LO2 Explain that employers have a responsibility for completing Risk Assessments and that employees have a duty to follow Risk Assessment outcomes
LO3 Identify a typical Risk Assessment form
LO4 Explain the requirements of the Risk Assessment team
LO5 Recognise and explain Risk Assessment terminology
LO6 Identify the different steps within the Risk Assessment process
LO7 Identify common, industry-specific hazards
LO8 Determine the appropriate level of Risk Assessment that may be required
LO9 Explain how to use a Risk Matrix to evaluate the level of risk
LO10 Explain how to identify appropriate control measures based on the Hierarchy of Control

Course Goal: 

This course aims to provide an awareness of US best practice in relation to working with Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM).

Learning Objectives:

LO1 Define what is meant by NORM and where it is found

LO2 Explain what is meant by ‘radioactive material’ and the difference between alpha particles, beta particles and gamma rays

LO3 Describe the hazards associated with NORM

LO4 Identify the pathways for exposure to NORM

LO5 Identify the radiation protection principles

LO6 Explain the importance of radiation monitoring

LO7 Identify control measures that can be used to minimize the risk posed by NORM

LO8 Describe the PPE that should be used when working with NORM

LO9 Explain how to limit decontamination and correctly dispose of NORM
