Course Goal: 

This course aims to provide learners of an awareness of US best practice in relation to minimizing exposure to bloodborne pathogens in the workplace.

This course aims to provide you with an awareness of bloodborne pathogens, common modes of transmission, methods of prevention, and what to do if exposure occurs. 

 

Learning Objectives:

 

LO1 Define what is meant by the term ‘bloodborne pathogens’

LO2 Identify the traits and symptoms of Hepatitis B

LO3  Identify the traits and symptoms of HIV 

LO4 Identify modes of transmission for bloodborne pathogens

LO5  Explain the purpose of an Exposure Control Plan

LO6 Give examples of preventive control measures that can reduce or eliminate exposure

LO7  Give an overview of the proper usage and handling of personal protective equipment

LO8  Describe decontamination best practice for blood and other potentially infectious materials

LO9  Describe the actions to take if an exposure incident occurs

LO10  Identify the measures to be taken if the skin or eyes are exposed to infectious material
