Course Information

The course offers a general approach to risk management, and is useful for participants from many different sectors. The cases provided as examples have a preponderance towards safety-related issues. Nevertheless, the theory and principles taught are general and have considerable value in other areas as well, such as project management.

The participant will learn about:

- Background to risk management
- Perspectives on risk
- Methods for describing uncertainty
- Theories and methods from economics and decision analysis
- The prudence and precautionary principles
- Management by objectives, acceptance of risk and risk-reduction (ALARP)
- A framework for risk management
- Factors for success in risk management
