Mintra has launched a new course on the external environment.  The course is aimed at everyone in the offshore industry.  The course’s primary objective is to provide participants with knowledge of principles and methods for reducing pollution, as well as regulations associated with the external environment.

Most organisations in the offshore sector are currently responsible for discharges and emissions to the air, water, and soil, in addition to using up natural resources during production of various products.  Every single organisation needs to work to impact the environment as little as possible.

Both the authorities and the petroleum sector have set a goal of zero discharges to the sea from installations on the Norwegian shelf.  In addition, emissions to the air shall be significantly reduced.

To a large extent, it is up to everyone who works offshore to contribute to achieving these goals.  Whenever a larger, acute discharge actually does occur, it is almost exclusively the result of human error or a breakdown in procedures and routines.  It is important that everyone who works offshore has a conscious relationship to what can lead to discharges and emissions to the air and sea.  The course, “The External Environment”, facilitates consciousness-raising and provides insight into, and knowledge of, the effect of offshore activities on the environment.
