The PSA Award 2008 of the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway was presented to the Gas Leak Reduction Project run by the Norwegian Oil Industry Association (OLF) during a HSE lunch in Stavanger on Thursday 28 August.

The award has been instituted to demonstrate PSA’s recognition of particularly outstanding efforts by persons or organizations that have considerably contributed to improved safety and higher HSE standards. It is a condition for receiving this distinction that a result has been achieved.

At a challenge of the PSA, the OLF decided in 2003 to establish their Gas Leak Reduction Project. Since then, the project has worked with determination to achieve its goals together with the industry stakeholders. The project has reached its ambitious goal of reducing hydrocarbon leaks to less than 10 per year by the year 2008.

"I have personally kept myself posted about the progress of this particular project" said Magne Ognedal, director-general of the PSA, at the award ceremony, "and I am simply impressed about what they have managed to achieve.
