After several tragic incidents on the Norwegian continental shelf in the 90’s, both the industry and the authorities called for an update to the NORSOK R003 standard.  The NORSOK R003 standard - Safe use of lifting equipment has, since it was published in 1997, developed into the most important reference standard for operating lifting equipment on the Norwegian continental shelf.

Mintra is now launching courses for crane and lifting operations, rigging, and slinging.  The courses satisfy the relevant standards and regulations regarding refresher training.

Collaboration with StatoilHydro, Shell and BP

StatoilHydro has extensive experience using e-learning, also for advanced technical training.  In collaboration with Mintra, the company has developed three e-learning courses for offshore crane and lifting operations:

• Safe Use of Offshore Cranes
• Slinging Refresher Course
• Rigging Refresher Course

Now, these e-learning courses are available for anyone in the industry who wants to focus on the NORSOK R003 standard.  Mintra hopes that the courses will contribute to increased safety for personnel working on the Norwegian continental shelf.

Course:  Safe Use of Offshore Cranes

• Target Group:  Crane operators, crane supervisors and apprentices, slingers, riggers, and signallers, as well as other offshore professionals.
• Duration:  2.5 hours
• Prerequisites:  Basic knowledge of and experience in the use of offshore cranes.

Course:  Rigging Refresher Course

•  Target group:  All categories of crane operators who have completed a basic rigging course.
• Duration:  approx. 1 hour
• Prerequisites:  Completed modules 0-1.1 and 0-2.2 in the basic safety course.  In addition, practical experience with rigging operations is required.

Course:  Slinger Refresher Course

• Target group:  All categories of crane operators who have completed a basic slinger course.
• Duration:  approx. 2.5 hours
• Prerequisites:  Completed modules 0-1.1 in the basic slinger course, fall safety, and simple lifting equipment modules 0-2.2.  In addition, practical experience slinging loads is required.
