In 2005 a person was crushed by a hydraulic door onboard a platform.  The man died later of the injuries he received as a result of this workplace accident.  This tragic accident was the basis of a project on the correct handling of watertight doors.  Now, you can make use of the result in the HSE work in your company.

Safety measures for hydraulically operated watertight doors

In conjunction with the implementation of these safety measures, Mintra delivered a short e-learning course on the correct handling of watertight hydraulic doors.  The productions are based on three problems relevant to the practical handling of watertight doors.

The object of the production is that personnel understand and recognize the risk hydraulically operated watertight doors represent.  The target group is personnel who work with or on installations where hydraulically operated watertight doors are installed.

The e-learning course is based on these three questions:

  • What happened?  (With reference to the concrete incident)
  • Why did it happen?
  • How can we avoid such an incident from repeating itself?

Using the concrete incident as a basis, we place the user in a situation where the goal is very clear; we must avoid this kind of accident from happening again!  When hydraulic door pressure can be close to a ton, the only guarantee that there will not be a repeat of this incident is if every one takes responsibility and shows respect for the doors.  This means that the doors must be handled safely and correctly.

The e-learning course is well suited to be shown in common areas, when users arrive at installations or on ships.  In the interactive version of the e-learning course, users can also put the theory into practice through relevant exercises.

The e-learning course takes less than 10 minutes to watch and will be an effective source for avoiding accidents with hydraulic doors.  Both Norwegian and English versions have been developed in order to accommodate the large target group.
