How does one deal with knowledge of inappropriate situations that are harmful to one’s business and one’s colleagues? How do we choose what to do when an action is legally acceptable, yet not right? In order to meet the demand for ethical understanding and reflection, Vipe offers a course in practical ethics. The course examines ethical rules and other important norms, and challenges participants by having them work through specific ethical dilemmas. Course Details
Course Content
The course provides an introduction to how ethics and tools from the field of ethics can help everyone make good, well-grounded decisions. In a busy workday, where interests often conflict, most of us will encounter situations where it is difficult to make the right decision.
Vipe introduces the subject and then moves the group process along, while assisting with suggestions. Dilemmas are adjusted according to need so that different sides of the decision-making process can be examined and made clearer. This way one gets as close to real decision-making situations as possible. The course is designed with active participation in mind, and the participants will be expected to defend their decisions to the others. This reflects the many difficult decisions one must take, where it is impossible to satisfy everyone no matter what the decision may be.
The practical exercises will primarily focus on situations where important moral, financial, legal or reputational considerations are in conflict.
Among the topics that are touched upon in the course:
- Ethical guidelines and other relevant ethical norms. - How to apply ethical tools in the decision-making process. - How to identify the various considerations that may come into conflict in difficult situations, as well as how to weigh their respective demands in the decision-making process. - How to explain and argue in favor of ethical choices.
